Abu Bakr was born in Makkah around 573 CE into the Banu Taym clan of the Quraysh tribe. His father was Abu Quhafa (Uthman ibn Amir) and his mother was Umm al-Khayr Salma bint Sakhar.

He grew up in Makkah and was known from a young age for his honest and gentle character. He was well-liked among the Quraysh and became a respected figure in his community even before adulthood.

Abu Bakr was known for his intelligence and keen memory. He reportedly avoided the vices common among the youth of pre-Islamic Arabia, including the worship of idols.
