Abu Ubayda ibn Al-Jarrah was born around 583 CE in Makkah into the Banu al-Harith ibn Fihr branch of the Quraysh. His birth name was Amir ibn Abdullah ibn Al-Jarrah, and he was known by his kunya Abu Ubayda.
He grew up in a modest household compared to some other Quraysh families but was known for his gentle character and dignified bearing from an early age.
