Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas was born around 599 CE into the Banu Zuhrah clan of the Quraysh in Makkah. He was a maternal uncle of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), as the Prophet's mother Aminah belonged to the same clan.
He grew up in a respected household and was known for his skill in archery from a young age, a talent that would later serve him well in the defense of Islam.
