Umar ibn Al-Khattab was born in Makkah around 584 CE into the Banu Adi clan of the Quraysh tribe. His father was Al-Khattab ibn Nufayl, a respected figure in his clan.
He grew up in a relatively modest household compared to some Quraysh families. As a youth, he tended camels for his father and learned reading and writing, a rare skill among the Arabs of that era.
Umar was known from his youth for his strong physical build, assertive personality, and skill in wrestling and horsemanship. He also developed expertise in genealogy and public speaking.
